Grafton is a small city in northeastern North Dakota's Red River Valley, about 45 miles north of Grand Forks via US Highway 17. The main routes are Highway 17 north-south and Highway 5 east-west, connecting to the Minnesota border and surrounding farm towns. The massive Grafton State School complex, which operated from 1904 to 2020, remains the city's most distinctive landmark.
