Gopher Flats is a farming community of 382 people in Umatilla County's wheat belt. Most visitors arrive via Highway 11 from Pendleton, 25 miles southeast, or from I-84 through Pendleton. The Eastern Oregon Regional Airport is about 25 miles away. The town got its name from the ground squirrels that used to populate the prairie before it became wheat fields.
