Goodhue is a small farming community about an hour southeast of Minneapolis, accessible via Highway 52 south to Cannon Falls then west on local roads. Highway 58 runs north-south through town, connecting to Highway 61 near Red Wing. The area features rolling farmland typical of southeastern Minnesota, with corn and soybean fields stretching between gentle hills. The town was named after James Madison Goodhue, who founded Minnesota's first newspaper in 1849.
