Golden is a small farming town in western Illinois, about 20 miles northeast of Quincy via Route 96. With under 700 residents, it sits amid rolling prairie farmland typical of the Mississippi River valley region. Access routes include I-72 from the east through Pittsfield, or US Route 24 from the north via Camp Point. The town gets its name from the golden grain fields that surround it each harvest season.
