Glen Alpine is a small foothills town in Burke County, about 15 miles east of Morganton via US Highway 70. The main route from Charlotte takes I-40 west to Exit 103, then US 70 west for 8 miles. NC Highway 18 provides north-south access through town. With around 2,000 residents, it sits in scenic Catawba River valley terrain. The town developed around historic mills that used mountain stream water for power.
