Gilman is a small farming town along I-57, about 80 miles south of Chicago. Exit 283 connects to US Route 24, which runs through the center of town. Most visitors are passing through on I-57 between Chicago and downstate Illinois. The restored 1891 Gilman Opera House still hosts live theater performances downtown.
