Gatesville is the county seat of Gates County in northeastern North Carolina, sitting along the Virginia border about 20 miles from Norfolk. US Highway 158 runs right through town, connecting the Outer Banks to the west and providing the main route for visitors. The 1836 Gates County Courthouse still anchors the town square after nearly 200 years.
