Gaston is a tiny farming town about 35 miles southwest of Portland, reached via Highway 47 through rolling Tualatin Valley countryside. The 45-minute drive from Portland follows Highway 26 west to Highway 6, then south on Highway 47 past hazelnut orchards and oak groves. Most visitors are passing through to the coast or wine country, though some come for the rural scenery. The red brick Gaston Grade School from 1922 still operates and serves as the town's most recognizable landmark.
