Garrison is a small North Dakota city on Lake Sakakawea's shores, about 45 miles south of Minot via US Highway 83. The town serves lake visitors with marinas and boat launches, while State Highway 37 provides east-west access across the region. Garrison Dam, a massive earthen structure completed in 1953, created the 180-mile-long reservoir and remains the area's most impressive landmark at 210 feet high.
