Garnavillo is a small farming town in northeastern Iowa, about 15 miles from the Mississippi River. Highway 18 runs east-west through town toward Marquette and the river, while Highway 76 connects north to Wisconsin and south to Elkader. The community of 816 people sits in rolling agricultural country where corn and soybeans dominate the landscape. The historic Garnavillo Opera House from 1904 still operates as a community theater above the old main street.
