Garfield is a tiny farming town of 126 people in south-central Kansas, about 20 miles northwest of Larned via US-56 and county roads. The community sits in wheat country along the Arkansas River valley, accessible from Great Bend (35 miles east) or Dodge City (40 miles west) via Highway 56. Named after President Garfield, the town was founded during the 1880s railroad era, though those tracks are now gone.
