Gamewell is a small foothills community of about 3,700 people in Caldwell County, roughly 10 miles northeast of Hickory via US Highway 321. The town sits along the Johns River in the Blue Ridge foothills, with Hickory Regional Airport 15 miles southwest for air travel. Most visitors arrive on US 321 from I-40 near Hickory, either as day trips from the Charlotte area or longer journeys to mountain destinations.
