Galax is a mountain town of 6,700 in southwestern Virginia, accessible via US 58 from I-77 (20 miles east) or US 221 from North Carolina. The city sits at 2,400 feet in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's famous for hosting the Old Fiddlers' Convention each August, the oldest and largest bluegrass gathering in America.
