French Settlement is a small Louisiana town of 1,300 people located 25 miles east of Baton Rouge along the Amite River. Take I-12 Exit 15 to Highway 16 for direct access from Baton Rouge (30 minutes) or New Orleans (about an hour via I-10 to I-12). The rolling, pine-covered hills here are unusual for south Louisiana. The town's historic Catholic cemetery contains French headstones dating back to the 1760s Acadian settlement.
