Freistatt is a tiny Lawrence County town of 249 people in southwestern Missouri's Ozark foothills. Highway 96 connects it to Springfield (45 minutes northeast) and Carthage to the west, with US Route 60 providing the main regional access. Founded in 1898 as a German Christian socialist utopian community, the original stone church from this "free state" experiment still anchors the town center.
