Freeville is a small village of about 460 people in Tompkins County, 15 miles northeast of Ithaca via scenic Route 38. Most visitors arrive from Ithaca, Syracuse (via I-81 and Route 13), or Cortland (via Route 366). The village got its name from being established as a "free ville" where residents could own land outright rather than rent from landlords.
