Freeman Spur is a tiny Franklin County town of 149 people along State Route 37 in southern Illinois. Most visitors arrive via Route 37 from Interstate 57, about 15 miles east. The area features rolling farmland and has Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois nearby. The town got its name from an old railroad spur that served local coal mines.
