Freeman is a small farming town of 690 people in western Missouri's Cass County, about 45 miles south of Kansas City. Highway 71 provides the main route from Kansas City, with State Route 18 running east-west through town. The area features rolling prairie farmland typical of western Missouri. Freeman hosts an annual community picnic that's been a regional tradition for decades.
