Franklinton is the seat of Washington Parish, located about 60 miles northeast of New Orleans via I-12 and Highway 25. The town sits in Louisiana's pine hill country, offering a cooler, more wooded environment than the typical bayou landscape. Highway 25 runs north-south through downtown, while Highway 10 provides east-west connections. The Washington Parish Fair, running continuously since 1901, remains one of the state's oldest annual celebrations.
