Franklin is a small farming town in west-central Illinois, about 30 miles west of Springfield in Morgan County. Most visitors arrive via I-72 to Exit 68, then follow local roads north. From Chicago, it's about 200 miles via I-55 south to I-72 west. The town sits among corn and soybean fields typical of Illinois prairie country. Franklin's historic grain elevator towers over the landscape and can be seen from miles away across the flat farmland.
