Franklin sits in southeastern Idaho's Cache Valley, seven miles north of Utah along US 91. This farming town of 1,000 connects Logan, Utah (25 miles south) with Preston, Idaho (12 miles north) via the main valley highway. State Highway 36 provides a scenic western approach from the Malad Valley. At 4,500 feet elevation, Franklin experiences snowy winters and dry summers. The town claims to be Idaho's oldest continuously inhabited settlement, founded in 1860 by Mormon pioneers who initially believed they were still in Utah.
