Fort Johnson is a small Mohawk Valley village in Montgomery County, about 35 miles northwest of Albany via I-90 and Route 5. The quickest access is Route 5 west from Amsterdam, while longer trips use the Thruway to Exit 27. The village sits along the Mohawk River amid rolling hills that showcase spectacular fall foliage. Old Fort Johnson, a 1749 stone manor house, was home to Sir William Johnson, the powerful colonial-era Indian agent.
