Formoso is a tiny farming town of 89 people on US Highway 36 in north-central Kansas, about 15 miles west of Belleville. The main route is US 36 connecting Kansas City to Denver, with Highway 14 running south to Concordia. It sits in the rolling wheat country of Jewell County, named from the Portuguese word for "beautiful" after the nearby Republican River valley.
