Floyd is a tiny farming town in eastern New Mexico's Roosevelt County, population 134. US Highway 70 runs right through it, connecting to Portales 15 miles west and continuing toward Texas. Most visitors arrive via Portales from Lubbock (45 miles) or Clovis. The town sits in wheat country on the high plains, with the characteristic semi-arid climate of the region. Floyd's grain elevator towers over the flat landscape, visible for miles as a landmark of the area's agricultural roots.
