Florence is a desert town about 60 miles southeast of Phoenix, connected by Highway 79 and State Route 287. Most visitors arrive via Interstate 10, either from Phoenix (north) or Tucson (south), then take Highway 79. The town sits in classic Sonoran Desert country with saguaro cacti and mountain views. Florence is home to Arizona State Prison Complex, one of the state's oldest correctional facilities dating to 1908.
