Flat Rock is a mountain community in western North Carolina, 25 miles south of Asheville via I-26. Take Exit 53 for Highway 225 to reach the town center. From Charlotte, it's about 120 miles via I-77 north to I-26 west. The area sits in the scenic Blue Ridge foothills with a mild mountain climate. The Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site preserves the poet's final residence, where he famously raised goats alongside writing his acclaimed works.
