Ferndale is a Victorian dairy town 15 miles southwest of Eureka via Highway 211, sitting in the Eel River delta surrounded by emerald pastures. Most visitors arrive on Highway 101 from San Francisco (280 miles) or use Highway 299 from Redding. The town features an entire block of preserved 1880s storefronts along Main Street, including the ornate Ferndale Repertory Theatre, which still hosts live performances in a building that opened as an opera house in 1896.
