Fayette is the county seat of Jefferson County in southwestern Mississippi, home to about 1,700 people. Highway 28 runs right through town, connecting east to Hazlehurst and west toward Natchez. Most visitors arrive via I-55 south from Jackson, then Highway 18 west to Highway 28. The town sits along the historic antebellum trail and features a unique 1904 courthouse built from local sandstone.
