Farmington is a small Marion County community of about 390 people located 10 miles northeast of Fairmont along the Monongahela River. Route 250 provides the main access from Fairmont, connecting to I-79 for longer trips to Morgantown or Charleston. Most traffic involves local trips to Fairmont for daily needs. The town is home to the Farmington Mine disaster memorial, commemorating 78 miners who died in a 1968 explosion that prompted major federal mine safety reforms.
