Fairmount is a small Grant County town of 2,700 people in east-central Indiana, reached via State Road 26 from Indianapolis (about 70 miles via I-69 north). The town sits amid typical Midwest farmland with straight rural roads following the original prairie survey grid. It's famous as James Dean's birthplace, and his childhood home on East Seventh Street still stands.
