Evarts is a small mountain town in Kentucky's coal country, tucked into an Appalachian valley in Harlan County. US Highway 421 is the main route in, connecting to Harlan 8 miles north and eventually to Interstate 75 about 60 miles away through winding mountain roads. The town of 650 residents sits among steep, forested ridges that create dramatic scenery. Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College operates a campus here, training students for mining technology and other regional careers.
