Evans Mills is a small Jefferson County village of 650 people that serves as a gateway to Fort Drum military base. Take I-81 north to Exit 48, then Route 342 west, or drive Route 342 directly from Watertown (12 miles). The village sits between the Adirondacks and Lake Ontario with typical North Country winters. It maintains one of the area's last volunteer fire departments still using a 1923 fire bell.
