Estacada is a small mountain town about 30 miles southeast of Portland via Highway 224, serving as the gateway to Mount Hood National Forest and Clackamas River recreation areas. The scenic drive from Portland takes 45 minutes, following the river through forested foothills. The town sits at 400 feet elevation with a mild climate and wet winters. You can still visit the original 1904 hydroelectric dam that powered Portland's early streetcar system.
