Erie sits along US Highway 169 in southeastern Kansas, about 15 miles south of Chanute. The highway serves as the main route for regional traffic and connects to Kansas Highway 47 in the town center. Most visitors arrive via US 169 from the Kansas City area or use it for north-south travel toward Oklahoma. The restored 1920s movie theater on the downtown square still shows weekend films and hosts community events.
