Epes is a small town in rural west-central Alabama, about 30 miles southwest of Tuscaloosa via Highway 69 and State Route 17. The area features rolling countryside typical of Alabama's Black Belt region, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Most visitors arrive from Tuscaloosa or Birmingham using various state highway combinations, as Epes sits well off the interstate system. The old Mobile and Ohio Railroad depot still stands downtown.
