Entiat is a small Columbia River town in north-central Washington, home to about 1,300 people surrounded by orchards and desert hills. Most visitors arrive on US Highway 97A, which runs along the river connecting Wenatchee (18 miles south) to Lake Chelan. The town operates Washington's longest-running volunteer library, staffed entirely by residents who take shifts to keep it open daily.
