Encino is a tiny high-desert community of 31 people in central New Mexico's Torrance County. Highway 285 runs right through town, connecting south to Vaughn and north toward Santa Fe about 80 miles away. The area sits at 6,200 feet with classic southwestern ranch country stretching in all directions. The old general store still has a vintage gas pump with mechanical flip numbers.
