Encinal is a small ranching town of about 1,300 people in La Salle County, positioned along US Highway 83 about 40 miles southwest of Cotulla. The town serves as a stopping point between San Antonio and Laredo, with State Highway 44 providing east-west access. The distinctive 1925 red brick schoolhouse still stands as the centerpiece of the modest downtown area.
