Emmonak is a Yup'ik village at the Yukon River's mouth on the Bering Sea, accessible only by plane or boat since no roads connect it to Alaska's highway system. Most visitors fly into the local airport from Bethel or Anchorage. The community serves as a regional hub for the vast Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta and hosts a checkpoint for the annual Kuskokwim 300 Sled Dog Race.
