Emerald Bay is a small lakeside community of about 1,000 people on Lake Palestine, 15 miles southeast of Tyler via Highway 155. Most visitors take I-20 to Highway 155 south, with long-distance travelers coming from Dallas or Shreveport and locals making quick trips from Tyler or nearby towns. The area sits in East Texas pine country with a humid subtropical climate. The town's centerpiece is the historic Emerald Bay Golf Club, a championship course designed by PGA pro Jimmy Demaret in the 1960s.
