Elsah is a tiny Mississippi River village about 40 miles north of St. Louis, reached via Interstate 270 to the scenic Highway 100. The entire town is a National Historic District filled with 1850s German stone cottages. Popular routes include the Great River Road from St. Louis and short drives from nearby Alton or Grafton. The old stone schoolhouse now serves as a museum.
