Elmdale is a tiny Chase County town of 61 people along US Highway 50, about 40 miles southwest of Emporia in the heart of the Flint Hills. The highway cuts through pristine tallgrass prairie, offering spectacular views of rolling hills that shift from green to gold with the seasons. Most visitors arrive via US 50, while locals use County Road 13 to reach surrounding ranches. The town still operates one of Kansas's last active one-room schoolhouses.
