Elkins sits at 2,000 feet in West Virginia's mountains where US 33 and US 219 intersect. Most visitors arrive via US 33 from I-79 near Buckhannon, about 30 miles east. The city serves as a gateway to the Monongahela National Forest and surrounding Allegheny Highlands. The historic Graceland Inn, a grand Victorian hotel from 1893, still welcomes guests in the heart of downtown.
