Elkader is a small Iowa town in Clayton County along the Turkey River, about 20 miles from the Mississippi. Highway 13 runs north-south through town, connecting to Decorah and McGregor, while Highway 56 heads east-west toward Postville and the Great River Road. It's the only American town named after Algerian resistance leader Abd al-Qadir al-Jaza'iri.
