Elk Falls is a tiny Kansas town of 126 people in Elk County, sitting along the Elk River in the Flint Hills. Reach it via US Highway 160 or county roads from Independence (25 miles east) or other regional communities. Most traffic comes from within 50 miles for local business. The town sits in classic tallgrass prairie country with limestone ridges and cattle ranches. Elk Falls gets its name from a small waterfall on the Elk River that once powered an old gristmill.
