Elizabethtown is a small county seat in southeastern North Carolina, sitting along the Cape Fear River about 45 miles northwest of Wilmington. Highway 87 runs north-south through town, connecting to Fayetteville and eventually Wilmington, while US 701 provides the main east-west route toward Whiteville and the coast. The 1904 Bladen County Courthouse with its red brick facade and white columns dominates the historic courthouse square downtown.
