Elephant Head is a tiny desert community 45 miles south of Tucson via State Route 83. Take I-10 south to Exit 281, then follow the scenic two-lane highway through ranch country at 4,000 feet elevation. Most visitors are exploring Arizona wine country or heading to the Mexican border. The town got its name from a rock formation that looks like an elephant's head from certain angles.
