Elberton, Georgia's self-proclaimed "Granite Capital of the World," sits in the rolling hills of northeast Georgia near the South Carolina border. The city lies along Highway 17, which connects to Interstate 85 about 30 miles southwest near Commerce. From Atlanta, take I-85 north to Exit 177, then Highway 17 north. The town serves as Elbert County's seat and sits about 100 miles from Atlanta. Massive granite quarries surround the city, producing stone used in famous monuments including Mount Rushmore and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
