El Paso is a small Illinois River town of about 3,000 people, sitting 20 miles northeast of Peoria along State Route 251. Interstate 39 provides the main north-south connection, while Route 251 links west to I-74 and the Peoria area. The town still operates one of Illinois' last manually controlled railroad crossing gates in its downtown area.
