Ekalaka is Montana's most isolated county seat, tucked into the state's southeastern corner near the South Dakota and Wyoming borders. Highway 7 provides the main access, connecting north to Highway 12 and south toward the state line, while Highway 323 offers a western approach from Alzada. The town of 276 anchors a vast ranching area amid rolling prairie and badlands, and houses the Carter County Museum with its remarkable collection of locally discovered dinosaur fossils, including a complete Triceratops skull.
